Maytal Agasi of Raleigh, NC inducted into American Hebrew Academy's prestigious Honor Society

2013 Jan 18

The American Hebrew Academy is proud to announce that Maytal Agasi of Raleigh, NC has been accepted into the esteemed American Hebrew Academy Honor Society. The Academy, America's premier Jewish pluralistic college-prep boarding school, recently extended invitations to 50 students worldwide for admittance into its exclusive organization. Now in its fourth year, the American Hebrew Academy Honor Society is an international honor society that acknowledges exceptional 8th and 9th grade students, like Maytal, who have demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, the arts, leadership and service to their communities.

The Honor Society is modeled after the National Honor Society, receiving recommendations, applicant questionnaires and transcripts in an effort to identify the most outstanding young Jewish students in the US and beyond. Maytal is an incredible young woman both academically and socially. A competitive swimmer since age two, Maytal also shares her love of the water by volunteering as a swim coach. Her skill and patience make her young students feel comfortable and safe. Maytal is also very involved with her synagogue and has a strong passion for Israel. She tries her best at everything she does and we are proud to recognize Maytal for her determination and hard work.

Along with the other students who have been inducted into the Honor Society, Maytal has been invited to attend a Scholars Weekend at the Academy over the weekend of February 1-3. The Scholars Weekend will be on the Academy's beautiful 100-acre campus, located in Greensboro, NC. The inductees who attend will be presented with an award certificate designed by Mordecai Rosenstein during the induction ceremony. Maytal also has the opportunity to compete for one of five renewable $20,000 annual merit-based scholarships that will be applied toward the cost of tuition to attend the Academy. Students nominated and accepted into the American Hebrew Academy Honor Society are not required to attend the Academy.

"To be named a member of the American Hebrew Academy Honor Society is a great achievement," says Mark Spielman, Director of the Honor Society. "We look forward to meeting each of the honorees and following their successes as they make great contributions to our society." Academy Director of Admissions Leslie Grossman added, "The Academy is an exceptional institution with an outstanding faculty and student body. Identifying stellar students follows our mission of mentoring the Jewish leaders of tomorrow."
